ARCHITECTURAL COLLABORATIVE

This rehabilitation project included repairs and additions to a c. 1895 historic home in the Madison Historic District. The project included the reconfiguration and restructuring of the rear of the house to allow for an enlarged master suite on the main floor, an open kitchen and family room, a full rear porch, and expansion of the second floor suite of rooms. A two-car garage and efficiency apartment were added in the back yard. The stair between first and second floors was reconfigured and fitted with new custom heart pine railings and newel post. Storage cabinets were built-in under the stair. All new doors in the project were milled from framing lumber salvaged from the project. Much of the work focused on making better use of the area already under roof in the house. At 3,902 sq. ft., the finished house is only 500 sq. ft. larger than before the work was done. The project received an “Excellence in Rehabilitation” award from the Madison Historic Preservation Commission in 2008.
