Eatonton Putnam County Library

The Putnam County Library facility was created from the consolidation a historic c. 1916 Carnegie Library building, a 1968 elementary school library building, and a 1988 addition that connected the two buildings. The 2015 rehabilitation of the Putnam County Library was undertaken to address problems with building accessibility, technology infrastructure, space inefficiencies, and general wear and tear. Working entirely within the existing building envelope, and making use of a long-obscured vaulted glulam beam/column structural system in the 1968 building, we replanned much of the public space, including reading rooms, restrooms, study rooms, and a multipurpose room. We also created a new handicapped-accessible building entrance directly from the parking lot. Because of the efficiency of the design, a remarkable transformation was accomplished with very limited funding.
