Lori Bork Newcomer, AIA, LEED-AP
Principal
Prior to co-founding Arcollab, Lori established Bork Design, Inc. in 2006 after moving to Athens from New Haven, Connecticut, where she was an Associate at Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. In the seven years she worked with PCPA, Lori gained experience in a variety of project types, including academic buildings, campus master-planning, high-rise corporate headquarters, a Major League Baseball stadium, and performing arts centers. During Lori’s last three years at PCPA, she led the project management of the $200 million concert hall and music theater at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, California.
Lori loves to explore the potential of design at a very intimate scale: crafting details, exploring different materials, and establishing a very personal relationship with clients. She built Bork Design’s reputation on the ability to thoughtfully integrate modern design into existing historic fabric. Lori received her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Bachelor of Architecture degrees from Rice University in Houston, Texas.
In addition to her professional responsibilities, Lori has taught studio courses in interior design at the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. She is active in helping to educate others about sustainability in design and is a founding member and former chair of the Athens Branch of the U.S. Green Building Council. Lori served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. She is a registered architect in Georgia.
Lori’s work has received awards from the U.S. Green Building Council, Historic Athens, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, and AIA Atlanta, and has been published in EcoHome magazine, Green Building and Design magazine, Atlanta Home magazine, GreenSource magazine, inhabitat.com, and in the books, LEEDING THE WAY: Domestic Architecture for the Future and The Modern Residence: Inspired Modern Homes Imagined and Designed by the Nation’s Leading Architects. Lori’s work has also been featured on the Modern Atlanta and the Modern Athens Home Tours and received numerous Best of Houzz awards since 2013.
